On a 1999 Merc Mountaineer, 5.0, 4R70W trans. I am getting a short chirp sound when shifting into Reverse or Drive. Also hearing it a bit when going into Neutral. I am suspecting it's a worn band as it tightens and releases.

Can anyone confirm this or provide other possibilities to check before I have to pay a shop for tranny diagnosis and repair?

Can this be adjusted or replaced without special tools? My Haynes repair book does not go into much anything more than linkage adjustment.

I discovered it's the rubber in the motor mount making the noise. Rains alot here so it never really dried out enough to stop when we noticed it and suspect possible transmission problem.
