I've got a Sony DSC-S600. It has to have good batterys or the lense will not come out. Any of your camera's act that way?

I have a Fujifilm Finepix 5200. I have four lithium Ion batteries. They are good for hundreds of fine shots.
I originally could not get more than about 100 and turns out the batteries were bad. I sent them back and the new ones are great.

My camera has a setting that allows you to specify the type of batter (LI or Alkaline) Maybe you have a setting too.
I do think they perform best with LI. They drain Alkaline batteries very fast.

it needs a required amount of power or it wont deploy the lense. Is this happening with Alkaline or LI? you could have a bad cell if its LI. Alkaline will loose that peak power very fast.

i use two cameras, both canons, and i would recommend them both to anyone! i use the S3 IS for snapshots, and it is amazing! and for the higher end stuff, an EOS 20D. both are awesome cameras, even for beginners, although the 20d is a bit pricey. but you can find S3's for like 300 bucks, and they do everything!

Frog to JT: "I'm a model, you know what I mean? I do my little hop in the frogwalk. I'm too sexy for my toadstool."

I have been searching for some good close up shots.
Almost had this awesome yellow mushroom, but forgot. The search continues.

The detail in the shot is excellent.
Did you use the flash ?
