Excellent community here glad to find it...

I have a 97 Explorer 4.0L V6 4x4.

This morning my rig would not shift into gear. The clutch petal starting getting soft a week ago, never checked my fluid :nono:

#1 The reservoir was empty and my diaphragm is broken
#2 I looked inside of the inspection panel on the bell housing and everything inside *looks* (as much as I can see) to be intact and dry... no internal leakage.
#3 However, the top of the bell housing and falling down the sides toward the rear all over the tranny case and crossmember is fluid.
#4 The clutch system from resevoir to the cylinders appears dry.

I can not tell where the fluid is coming from and I haven't dropped the tranny yet.

I was hoping someone here would just tell me add fluid and bleed the system and I would be OK...???

Any suggestions where I should start? Do I need to drop the tranny to get a better look at whether there is a leak from above somewhere (I have no idea if there are hydrolic cables above the bellhousing or not).
