Not to take anything away from the New England Patriots. The way they played throughout the game showed they deserved to win.
    But...
When that ball went through the uprights, there were THREE SECONDS left on the game clock.
    Anyone else wondering about this???

mmm I thought it was more like 1... either way I think they won it fair and square. Iw as more worried abotu when the ref did the coin toss, it landed on the ground, he bent over and picked it up, it fell back down, then he called it.

1 second? That's plenty. Recall Giants-Eagles when they were about 4 yards short of pulling off the hook and ladder... I was rooting for the Pats, but there always is the what-if :)

Yeah, 3 seconds, 1 second - enough time for a "Hail Mary" I s'pose. But the Rams didn't protest and were already walking on the field as well, so it doesn't really matter. I'm just happy the Pats won (sorry Rams fans)! Nobody gave them much (any?) credit, but it just goes to prove the point once again "Any given Sunday..." :)

You are forgetting that the OFFICIAL time is not the scoreboard but is kept by an official on the field.

The portion of the game that was played, was played "fair and square", but whether it was 3, or 1, (shall we meet at 2?) seconds that remained, the game was not over.
Even if the Rams would have only had a million-to-one chance of returning a kick-off for a TD, it was a chance they should have been afforded per the rules of the game.
This may seem trivial, but be assured those who won or lost millions of dollars in bets, endorsments, team marketing revenues, etc., would consider it substantial.

I noticed that myself. I figured the Rams should've been given at least a chance for Marshall Faulk to take it back...ya never know what could've happened. Oh well though, congrats to the pats, played a good game.

I'm not 100% certain on this but I have seen it on a number of occassions and heard it discussed before:

    1) I believe a field goal has 7-10 seconds of play for each play.
    2) The clock doesn't stop when the ball crosses the plane of the uprights, it's when the ball lands
    3) Aldive is right - the offical time is kept by the head referee (the guy in the white hat).
    4) All you St Louis fans just step back and let us New Englanders enjoy our win (afterall, when St Louis won against the Titans, I seem to recall a much more controversial non-touchdown by the Titans with seconds remaining)

That being said, last night's game was the best Superbowl I have ever seen. Adam Vinateri has cast iron between his legs to be able to hit that kick!

i noticed it at first but then i realized the ball didnt land until the clock reached zero. i think it would've been cool if there was one last kickoff.

but it was a great game. just like superbowl XXV when the giants beat the bills. it all came down to a field goal (missed by buffalo)

It was a good game. I think I was rooting more for an OT than a winner. I wonder if warner is going to blame it all on his so called "hurt thumb"??? I have to add this in,

Go Bears!!!!!!!!!!!! I just want to see a repeat of the 85 season!

    PATRIOTS!!!!!!!

First New England championship I have wittnessed :D
Sorry St. Louis....oh yeah...remember that last B's championship? :bounce: Maybe they should have taken us seriously. I knew it was gonna happen all along...like I said before, third time's a charm.

Oh...about Warner, I saw an interview and he said flat out the thumb wasn't a factor. He said it was bothering him but his passes went where he wanted them to so it didn't affect him.

Coaching made the difference with St. Louis. Vermiel(sp?) won the last St. Louis championship.

Yeah, but the coach didn't throw interceptions or fumble the ball....you can only blame so much on the coach.

Classic example of a TEAM with more heart and desire beating a team with more talent and press.

A good old fashoned arse whipping, plane and simple....
