The control arm bushings in the front upper control arm are made out of a metal casing with rubber inside. New bushings come as one piece assembly, i.e., the rubber part is already inside the metal casing.

To replace the bushings by removing the entire assembly (metal casing and rubber part), what is required in order to remove the metal casing from the control arm? Can it be removed with a hammer? Or, does it require a press... in order to press the metal casing out of the control arm?

Thanks for your help!

You would need a press to replace the UCA bushings. If you still have your original OE UCA's, your ball joints are worn out and are non-replaceable. New UCA's come with new replaceable ball joints and new bushings installed. I recommend Moog problem Solvers.

A ball joint press is the best way to replace them. Hopefully they're not siezed in there
