      Welcome to Sears.com

To say I'm not happy is a huge understatement:angryfire:

I checked the oil before the initial startup and it was fine. It's still fine, but the engine is seized. I was moving some dirt with the blade on the back when the engine started to smoke and sound bad. I killed it immediately and allowed it to cool. When I tried to restart it, it won't even turn over. It's a Kohler engine and the tractor is built for Sears by Husqvarna.

After I cooled off a bit I went and checked things out again. Turns out the engine isn't seized, the PTO clutch is. When I tried to crank it after it cooled it was banging so I looked underneath and saw that the clutch assembly was striking the bracket that holds the electric cable to the clutch. The wires were cut at the connector from the clutch spinning. I wasn't even using the PTO.

I found is that the entire electric clutch assembly is free to turn. From what I can tell, the body should be mounted solid. I can see where bolts could go through two tabs, but there is nothing in the frame that lines up. It appears something fell off in the 36 minutes of operation.

That's odd. I would also not be happy spending that amount of money and something goes wrong

Very not cool. I would think this would be a fairly straightforward warranty claim. Good luck, man.

Sears has always been good about taking care of customers most of the time. Hopefully nothing has changed, and you'll have a new mower after the trouble to haul it back there.

I've got a new Craftsman overalls I need to return from February. I loved the thick hooded coat, and bought the overalls that match it in materials etc. Unfortunately their sizing is different for these, I got a large like the coat was, but this thing is huge. I don't wear medium clothes, and they don't stock them now. Good luck, returning things is not ever fun.

Good news. They are exchanging the tractor next week:chug:

They were going to send out a tech, but when they saw where I lived they said they don't have any techs that work out here, so... new tractor :D

First thing I'm gong to do is to see how the clutch is supposed to be mounted! LOL

      That's great news.

I figure with anything Sears nowadays, their response would be [IMG]

That's good to hear. They may be going bankrupt again, but they'll probably take care of us until the end. Let's hope another company like KMart takes over, who's left ... Toys-R-Us?

Is that sarcasm? Toys-R-Us is shutting everything down, LOL.

Is that Kohler motor pressure lubrication with a spin on filter? The guy who rebuilt my moms Deere motor (less than a hundred hours, NOT pleased) recommended a larger spin on filter. Same micron filter, just more surface area. He said it’d flow more oil and keep it cooler in the dead of summer when we were working it hard.

Yes, do you remember when KMart was going bankrupt, then they came out of it, and bought Sears? I figure maybe Toys-R-Us might do the same thing. I love Sears, I don't want them to die off. I haven't bought much there lately, but I own a ton of Craftsman tools.

Yeah, my base set of tools contains a whole lot of craftsman, although I’ve added a Mac and Snap-on ratchets.

I was sad to hear about Toys-R-Us. Lots of memories.

Good to hear they are standing behind it. I'm curious if you discover something missing compared to the new one.

I wonder how much assembly is needed for these and who does it?

The assembly is done by not-very-skilled entry level techs, but there isn’t a whole lot to do after pulling it out of the crate. The PTO mounting would have been done at the factory. For piece of mind, I’d run a wrench over the new one.

Yes, it has the spin on filter. Do you happen to know the part number of the larger filter?

It looks like a mini auto filter. Thanks for the link.

Apparently from what I read it should have an automotive thread that can be matched.
