I'm trying to figure out if I should replace my tires. They all seem to have some issues that need replacement, but does this one itself have dry rot?

If you were to look up "dry rot" in the dictionary there would be a picture of your tire! :D

Thanks guys! Yeah, I figured as much. LOL... I have 3 points to mention:

    1. If I keep driving like this, what could happen? My gut tells me a shredded tire while driving which wouldn't be especially safe being that it's in the front.

    2. And since the previous owner has 3 different tire brands on there with different tread patterns, this is a good time to replace all 4 since most of the others are pretty bald.

    3. Which brand do you guys recommend? I did some research and this one seems to be coming up as one of the best: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...utoMake=Ford&autoYear=2003&autoModel=Explorer XLT&autoModClar=

From what I've read on this board, you want to replace the whole set at the same time. Mismatched tires can play havoc with the 4 wheel drive mechanicals.

Buy the best you can afford. When I got my Explorer a few months ago, the dealer put on a new set of Generals, IIRC. They seem to do fine; quiet on the highway, good grip on the wet stuff. Exactly like the ones you're looking at on the Tirerack website.

+1 on the General Grabber HTS. I put 4 on my '03 Limited in March and they've been a great tire so far.
