Damn! I've been driving Explorer Sports since '93! Loved each and every one of 'em too (1993 - purchase, 1996, 1998, 2001 - leases).

Very sad news indeed, it's a great truck... :(

Uh what's up with having more doors than two being a bad thing? Trashy....hmm, ya i'd like you to tell me mine's trashy. You think ford is retarted? How can you say that when you're the one that's got a ford like most everybody else on here? I have no earthly idea where you are coming from on this subject but hopefully you don't mean it.

Yeah he is just venting, and I am sure he means the 02 explorers also. Why stop producing the best selling compact suv on the road? And honestly, they were just starting to look good.

Well, all's I can see for the future is, those of you that have Sport's is $$$$$$$$

You guy's have the last of a dead breed ( I say dead breed because it still has a full axle in the rear, as far as Gen3's go), just think of the BroncII, there worth more that a full size (at least in my area).

I've been looking for a early (91-94) Sport for a trail rig and find that BroncII's and Sport's are more than early Ranger's are.. The X's resale is still far supierior(sp?) to any other SUV FMCO has come up with.

      That's my .02

Bummer, but they look funnier as they get newer, and by 2005 they would probably have independant rear suspensions in them or something lame or "innovative" like that.

Welcome to the 4 door crowd my friends!!

      Subject: Ford's canceling Explorer Sport
Comments: I had been anticipating the cancellation of the Explorer Sport. Things were just too quiet regarding this vehicles future. Ford has proven that even with it's monstorous line up of SUVs they are really only targeting the "soccer mom" grocery getter market segment and not the "No Boundries" segment which they claim to be after in their advertising campaigns. Unfortunately the boundries for Fords current line up of IFS/IRS SUVs is the end of the paved road.

On three seperate occasions Ford sent teams of engineers on off-road trips that I setup for Ford Explorer enthusiasts. These enthusiasts ranged in age from 18-55 years old. We took them to Moab Utah, Truckhaven in California and Ouray Colorado to show them that there was a lot of interest in using the Explorer in these areas of world class four wheeling experiences. We were told that they had a project in the works. Something that would compete head to head with the Jeep Wrangler.

To our disappointment, Ford dropped the ball on the project and their research teams were scattered to the four corners never to be heard from again. Today GM has acquired the Hummer line and now they have two off-road worthy vehicles in their lineup. Jeep has just raised the level of well equipped factory prepared off-road vehicles with their new Rubicon editon. What does Ford have for the us? Not a thing. To view a discussion regarding this issue check out this page on my message board: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s =&postid=446154#post446154 And if you have a chance check out the board itself www.explorerforum.com Thanks for letting me vent :)

If this is in fact true, then I hope Ford comes out with a decent replacement. Everyone is correct in that while our Explorers aren't the best offroader out of the box, they're still a lot better than the "lifted car SUVs" out there. I'm afraid Ford will lose a lot of customers if they cancel what's left of the solid axle/liftable SUVs.

Ford SUV's have saved the company's ass over the last few years, it's sad to see them screwing with such a big market. You would think since the Explorer has been the #1 selling SUV on earth for the last 10+ years they would tread lightly.........guess not. :(

there goes another vehicle to mediocority. Its all about the masses now adays there are no more really innovative vehicles. The only exception i can think of is the gt40 but even then thats based on a previous and proven concept that ford knows people will like. They touted the new explorer as a leap in technology but they just took car suspension and put it in a mainstream vehicle before any one else did. The sport was really the last suv (with the exclusion of jeeps of course) that could be used for off road. It still had a frame, it had a solid axle and with the exeception of the ifs its a decent truck for offroad. ive got a wreckd 96 sport that i was thinkin of turning into a trial rig. I think i might hold onto it for a while and keep it as a classic.

They don't mention the Sport Trac.... Will this still be built I wonder. Wouldn't make sense to if you're not building the Sport. And then again, wouldn't make sense to kill the Sport if you're still building the Trac..... Hmmmm.
