First off, is 3" pipe to big on a v8?
Second they said you cant run 3" on my 98 4d, the reason is not enough room?

You know, they're right. They can't put a 3" exhaust on your Explorer.

Why? Because you're taking your money elsewhere since they fed you a line of BS. Their loss.

I had a local shop tell me the same thing when i wanted to do custom duals on my Contour. They said it would never fit even when alot of people on the forums were running perty much the same setup. Went to another shop and they said no problem. I figure the shop is just a little lazy and does not want any custom work that might make them think a little. Good luck, their is one somewhere that will always do it you just have to look around.

If you are talking from the mufler back there should not be a problem. If you are talking between the cat and mufler a 3" pipe would hurt your torque.
