I have a 2001 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD, V8 that is making a clunking sound when accelerating and when making turns. I figured its about that time to change the CV Joints anyway. So I bought the kit that includes the CV joints already assembled and the half shaft. I also decided to change the ball joint assembly. I did this for both sides. I was so happy when I finished thinking, no more noise... But when I did the first test drive the same freaking noise was still there. Clunking when accelerating and to my surprise when turning the wheel hard. I lifted the truck back up and took the CV kit out and put it back in just to make sure I didn't do anything wrong. The noise still persists when accelerating and turning. Could it be the transfer case? Did I install something wrong or are the parts defective? What can I do next??
