So I wanted to know how I get get my 99 ford explorer 5.0 to run without all the emission bs that chokes performance. I've read that a performance cam can really help with horsepower. But I wanted to know if I can use internals from the mustang (pistons, rods, gaskits, and that kind of stuff) I was hoping to reach 240-300 without forced air induction.

Thanks, have a nice day!

The forged internals from the 'Stang HO or Lincoln MK VII are direct fits for the Explorer 5.0.

To get your target HP, seriously consider a good set of aftermarket heads and headers as the first steps in the build.

I just got done swapping a 98' expo motor into my Mustang. Internals are the same except pistons (92 and earlier Mustang have forged, expos are hyper). You'll gain nothing by swapping internals, focus on letting the motor breath. The stock explorer cam and valve springs suck, and the stock exhaust is VERY restrictive.

In the Stang' world these motors are good for 300hp once they have a decent cam and the ability to exhale.
