I have a problem on my 2002 Explorer..i can not get the factory Fog/Driving lights to light up at any time with low beams or high beams. I always loved the fog lights on but can not figure it out I have tried the fuses no luck though.
Maybe a relay just not sure as to where to look next...
      Thanks everyone

Not sure if you're doing this or not, but when you turn your lights on, are you pulling the knob back to turn them on? Also, they're not designed to work with the high beams on.

Are we talking two door, four door, or sport trac? If you have a four door the knob should pull back when the knob is turned to parking light or head light mode.

      2002 Fog Lights

This 2002 is my third Explorer. On the previous models, Fog Lights were standard. On the new and better updated 2002 model, the fog lights disappeared as did several other standards. I want to add Fog Lights. I checked with my local Ford Dealer and they will charge $500 for the lights and installation. I've found the lights on several websites for less than $50 each. Problem is, what looks like the punchouts for fog lights on the front bumper are a rectangular and every website shows round fog lights for the 2002. What am I missing? And once the light situation is figured out, how difficult are the lights to install? Could a regular Joe, with instructions, install them or should I just fork over $500? Be kind. It's Christmas.

Presuming you don't have the XLS bumper, there are two locations you can install fogs. There are the small rectangular slots down at the bottom that come with plastic plugs in them, and there are the normal fog light locations which have big grey plastic plugs in them (below the headlights)-this is where the fogs are when they come standard. But you'll notice there is a different set of grey plugs for the explorers that come with stock fogs. If it were me I would probably dremel out round holes in those big stock grey plugs and mount my lights the same way they come on new explorers. The lights won't fit the plastic as perfectly as they do on the explorers that come with fogs, but I think it would still look pretty good.

Your lights should come with a wiring diagram, they are pretty straight forward to install just use a little common sense and ask questions if you get stuck somewhere.

We had the same problem. We have a mid-trim level Explorer, but it didn't come with fogs. We cured that. If you look on Ebay there are usually kits on there to put them in. It includes everything from the knockouts that go below the headlights to the light housing, to the switch, and all the wiring in between. Set aside a day to do this as the wiring can be confusing. We had to track down a few wires ourselves. It comes with a seperate switch that we mounted low on the dashboard. So you won't have the same style switch that would've come from Ford. Good Luck!

Thanks for the information; I'm off to Ebay to see what I can find. I did go to the Ford lot last night for an upclose look at what the factory installed fog lights look like, so now I understand why they're round. On my 1996 Explorer, the fogs where mounted down low where the rectangular knock out is on the 2002, so I assumed that was where they had to go. I live in a very small town where there is one Ford Dealer and everyone knows everyone so I was too embarrassed to ask the do it yourself questions at Ford after they had already quoted me a price. They're very nice people but not $500 nice if I can get this done for less money.
