2000 Ford Ranger XLT
I purchased a used 2000 Auto 4WD Ford Ranger XLT (currently 190xxxkms) 6 months ago. It had been running great, but just recently (last month or so) it has been running slow/accelerating slow. Also, when I put it in reverse, it sometimes doesn't go into gear right away. If I give it gas (quite a bit) it clunks into gear. Or if I put it into P and then D and back to R, it works fine without clunking. (Possibly effecting acceleration?)

Oil changes have been done regularly... fuel filter was just changed and lines were checked as well. Any suggestions as to what is wrong with it??

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a transmission issue. Slipping when you accelerate? If so, find a specialist that offers free transmission checks.

That's what I have been told, but the thing is it's not actually slipping at all, just slow to get past 60km/hr.

To save time, money, and aggravation, ALWAYS start diagnosing by scanning for trouble codes. Regardless if the check engine
light is on or off, DTC's will be stored in the computer if there are any. Most larger auto parts stores will scan for them free of charge. Call around, write the numbers down, and report back. GL

Thanks for your input I appreciate it! The check engine light was on so I used a scanner and the error code that came up was concerning the air/fuel intake. I took it in to a mechanic and he checked it out and decided the fuel filter needed to be changed. Unfortunately the issue was not fixed and there were no further error codes.
