FRONTLINE: Hatchet Job on Ford???

It's not the look it's all about image. There is some sort of stigma attached to station wagons. People want to be cool so they stay away from station wagons and mini vans but they buy SUVs. SUVs allow the sissies to have a rugged outdoorsy image. Funny thing is that SUVs are the station wagons of our time.

Very soon we will all be driving the same gray car that has been certified by the government to be safe. The car will cost $100,000 since it will come with full rollcage, 5 point safety harness, fire suppresion equipment, active computer enhanced handling, governor controlled engine which will not exceed the governments new 15mph speed limit etc. etc.

If you really think about it, there have been alternatives for a long time. The Subaru wagons that are very capable and perfectly carlike, Audi now has AWD wagons although they're expensive, VW too, and Mercedes. To me a Mercedes E430 4MATIC wagon would serve as as adequate a stsus symbol as say a Lexus LX470 for about the same cost...

Its the big look they're after.

Hear, hear!

The flavor of the week in vehicles in Los Angeles is the joke-of-the-SUV's Cadilliac Escalade, preferably on 20's.

Exactly, Rick! But people will still die in accidents - from heart attacks - when they realize their $100,000 car was just damaged and will cost $7,500 for a new bumper! ;)
