On my way home tonight my vehicle acted like it was running out of gas and eventually would only idle. Within a couple minutes it would only start if I turned the key on and off a few times cycling the fuel pump. You can hear the pump running so I sprayed some starter fluid into the throttle body and it would start, but quit after just a couple seconds. I got towed home and did a key on test and had zero pounds of pressure at the rail. It's the original pump and the vehicle has 180,000 miles.
I've never changed a fuel pump so I'm wondering what I have to buy. The vehicle is clean with little or no rust so the straps will come off pretty easy. Do I buy just a pump or is there other things that should be changed also. Also, I see pumps listed for anywhere between sixty and two hundred forty dollars. Whats one cost that should be used?
