started yesterday on my trip back to atlanta from charleston for the holidays visiting family. at the georgia/southcarolina border rest area I pulled in just fine, went to piss, came out and the car wouldn't crank. couldn't figure it out, after about 20 minutes it cranked and ran rough until I got up on the highway doing 75mph (normal highway speed) ran fine even after I got off the highway in atlanta. pulled in to check my mail, got back in the truck and it wouldn't crank again!

decided to check for spark so I pulled a plug, tossed it in the plug wire, and set it on the cowl so I could see it arc across to the cowl while cranking. about 1.5sec of cranking and the truck sputtered to life! and then I could see fire from the plug. turned it off, put the plug back, and it cranked up but ran rough as hell again. This time smoke was coming out and it smelled really rich but at the same time looked a bit bluish.

pulled around into my parking spot and went inside to unload, came back out again and cranked it and it was again running rough and pouring smelly ass smoke out. drove it around and it was bogging or hesitating somewhat and billowing smoke until I got up to speed then it smoothed out some.

pulled back in and went inside for about 3 hours while pouring over my mitchel on demand and calling dad back home. came outside and it cranked and ran just fine?? wtf??

this morning I cranked it and it was running rough as hell and of course billowing smoke badly. wanted to cut off a few time as I came to a stop. once I got on the highway, the smoke cleared and it ran good from there until I pulled into the subway parking lot but when I put it in park this time it idled up to 1800rpm??

Ok, here's what I think could be wrong:
1. I'm thinking that either my EDIS-6 module is going goofy.
2. my fuel pressure regulatore is bad and dumping fuel.

anyone have any clues, I've got my dad sending me two of each along with an extra coil pack and some other nicknacks from a few of the explorer parts trucks we have. this just pisses me off and I need this truck running since my escort is dead as well, sigh...

all I know is I HAVE to get this fixed since it CANT be good for my cylinder walls and half the time I cant get the car to crank unless I pull a plug out and then crank it up and then put the plug back in while the engine is running (yeow!) it cut off on me in the middle of traffic a few times and doing that with traffic whizzing by is NOT fun!!! waahhhhhhh!!!! help me

Try disconnecting the vacuum line coming up from the trans. vacuum modulator and see if it is full of oil. If it is, the modulator diaphragm has torn and is causing your engine to ingest trans. fluid.

Considering its blowing blue smoke, have you thought about a head gasket problem?

my guess is a blown head gasket or a cracked head.

Do you have any water in the oil, or vice-versa? With the radiator cap off, when giving it RPMs, does it puke out the radiator? If so, that's a sign of a blown head gasket. Not sure if that would explain why it's blowing blue. Usually, that's a sign of a ring or valve train problem.
