not to mention OPEC dropping production. Even though it didn't increase the price of oil.

And yes, today's gas prices are from last weeks oil prices (ok, not exactly, but it's along those lines).

oh... and Alaska has 2 refineries. And we still pay more than (I believe) every state in the contiguous US.

There is a refinery a few minutes from my house. Yet Michigan has some of the highest gas prices in the nation too.

Michigan's avg gas price for today is $1.862. Ranging $1.66 to $2.09.

Alaska's avg gas price for today is $2.339. Ranging $2.38 to $2.82.

    The national avg is $1.835.

$0.03 above national avg is not high :p:

Dirty Jers is about $1.69/gal. I waited until I returned to PA to fill (at $1.85.gal.), though, because I rather not stop in the state if I don't have to. :D

Here in Texas I just paid $1.54/gal.

FWIW the employee contract on the refinery workers (30,000 people) just ran out. They account for 10% of refinining capacity. Prices will continue to inch up until these guys come to an agreement. If they go on strike it will leap.

That's a good explanation. I'm sure there's plenty of gouging at the local level too. I know the stations here have a pact to keep gas within a few cents of each other.

$1.79 here and $1.63 in CdA.

It looks like gas prices started to climb at a fast rate. On Thursday it was $2 a gallon. Sunday was $2.02. Monday was $2.09. I don't know if it's climbing so fast in other states, but this is very fast considering that oil dropped down to $35 a barrel. It wasn't this low in years. Just a year ago, it was about $100 or $120 a barrel. At this price, we should be paying under $1 a gallon, and not over $2. This article shows that oil went up a little: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12400801/

Wow, seriously? It's gone up to the $2.30's to $2.40's here. It's because we're not using enough now.
