Glen's 96 XLT

This is my 96 Explorer D.D. slow moving project, was bought in September of 07. XLT model which is like XLS model, power windows/mirrors and that's it.

Mods:
Removed the running boards
Brown-Wire-mod but have swapped in a 97 GEM so I don't drain my battery anymore. And have disconnected the plug under my hood to have a "live" axle type setup for now until a locker is installed and until I decide when to put a manual t-case in. (manual case in now) 4-29-11
33" tires
4.88 G2 Gears
Swapped in different hvac controls.

Sony Headunit
Boss 1200W Class D Mono Amp
Pioneer 12" 1200W Sub for a little bass

I plan to have it a little more off-road capable nothing extreme just enough to be able to tackle some descent trails and be a descent truck on the highway.

Here she is. :)

Well today 3/9/10 is a really nice day so decided to finally remove that bumper valance so it looks better and gives a better approach.

3/25/10 Decided to lift it a little.

I finally had enough of the blue bezel and only did that temporarily and never replaced or repainted and its not a ricer so I decided I wanted black again (for now) so went to the junk yard and got a 99XL bezel so that the 4wd panel matched what it actually is now 6/4/10

Looks like a great future project tho Glen!!! :D

A D44 with radius arms and all the parts internal from hub to hub for $100.00 can't pass up a deal like that. Came from one of my step dad's F-150 parts trucks.

oooooo.....look in the lower corner real hard :p:

4.88's installed front and rear! :D

4.88s will be nice for sure. Hell I don't even care much for the 4.10s with my 32's. I guess having 4.10s on 30'' tires made me spoiled.

Yeah the 4.88's are nice :) alot more pep but not good for highway with the 33's 2500 rpm at 60 but once the 35's are on it will be better for it.

Sweet as, mate!

Just a small steepish hill out back of the house, been workin so haven't had much time to really try it out but still the crawl it has now is awesome compared to what it was :D

Nice Ex Glen.

Thanks :)

Was talkin to a friend that is getting an XJ and was talking and thinking about cutting the back part of the truck off and converting it like a little bed but will have to think more and more on that kinda step....

Finally wheeled it after the gear change and did great, impressed Jeepers :p:
Did about kill driver side inner tie rod end but knew that one was going to fail sooner or later. Put a dime size dent in driver side tbar bracket :D, bashed the hitch a couple times, rubbed the rear tires the fullest stuffing a couple times and scratchy scratchy scratchy...all in all a good day going to the top of the mountain. Only got stuck once and that was because of mud.

EDIT: oh yeah and noticed my speedometer was going wacko jumping all over the place, got home and the sensor on the t-case is lose, luckily that's all that is :)

Not many pics of it actually in action but a couple pics anyway....

Wicked photos mate! Looks like an awesome day and a real damn shame about the j*** overheating Hee hee hoo hoo:p:

Looks like a good time, Glen.

Ugh old trucks sure don't let you get bored....fix the tie rod and now seems the rack is going out, speed sensor somehow snapped, go to replace that and the wires snapped right at the pig tail plug that plugs to the sensor, tried fixing that by making my own wiring harness, take it for a test drive, come back and see steam from under the hood, anti-freeze dripping on the manifold looks like could be easy fix. So now to get a partial harness to connect to the wires that's still within reach and fix the dripping issue and another rack...

She drives either the Z or the Ex whichever she wants :) she actually handles it well for not having sway bars.

Got a rack for it tonight, damn those things take a little persuasion to get it to get it out, but got it out, and my own mistake, broke a fitting right off the cooler, so gotta see if someone local has one new or go to the scrap yard in the morning. Was happy that all I had to do was take the tie rods out and disconnect a couple things to get it to be ready to pull :) Nik was all bundled up and I was in my t-shirt comfortable in 46F.

Was examining ways of just making a steering box work with it, but too much work if it's going to end up getting sas'd...

So as precise as I tried to be by removing the tie rod/end as one assembly it still is not straight...ugh...so thinking maybe I'll just replace the outter's before I even get an alignment even though they seem like they should be fine....I did not use the inner tie rod ends that came on the rack because they were not as stiff as the moog.
