    Hey guys

a couple of weeks ago i cranked up my truck and watched the RPM gauge just go straight up to 3000 and stay there...

my truck in no way, form, or fashion was running at 3000 rpm.

As i drove, i noticed that the needle would move; just within the 3000-3500 rpm range

it went on like this for 3 weeks until finally one day on my way to work it just fixed itself and worked normally.

when i got out of work that day it went back to being stuck at 3000

for about a week after that it sparatically would start working again for momments at a time

now its out to lunch again and doesnt know what rpm its running at

    anyone had this problem?

I'm having that problem, not exactly like that though... But I'm sure you were hoping for someone who had the problem and fixed it. ;)

It started happening after I put in my reverse glow gauges so I know it's my fault. But now it kinda jumps to different points. Like when I'm accelerating it'll jerk it's way up to 3000rpm and when I shift it'll stay paused at 3000 for a moment until it abruptly falls to 2000. It just doesn't rise and fall smoothly anymore.

    Same exact thing here...

I, too, have that exact problem, and i as well have the reverse glow gauges (but have had them installed for a year plus). I adjusted the gauges about 2 months ago and the Tach problem began only about a month ago. It'll jump up on accelleration, but not a steady swing to 3k....it's real sharp. Then it'll pause and drop to the current rpm. No fix as yet...

    Sorry for the false hope...

I guess the only answer for you is to take the stuff apart and see if it's catching on the overlay or if you didn't reconnect harnesses correctly.

When i installed them, and when i adjusted the (gauges) - i never unhooked anything form the back of the OEM guage (to avoid this problem). I'll probably get into the dash over the weekend to see if the needle is catching up on the overlay

I was only joking, of course, and I figured I should just get in there and see for myself but I haven't been adventerous yet to take my dash apart.

just be glad you guys dont own a gm digital dash cluster.. oh man, you wanna talk about a headache. my dad hits a pebble on the road and his spedo goes out, along with the turn signal indicators.. must be the same circuit, then if he hits another pebble or pothole (very common here in wv) it will come back on. its been out for about a month straight now. im tempted to pull the dash, he'll never do it. he of course like every other 'experienced' driver thinks they can tell what speed they are running at like esp or somethin.

actually guaging speed isnt hard to do... my speedo doenst work, and whenever i drive by those police point trailers on the road, i try to guage myself @ the limit...im normally within a 5 mph range either way......

anyways, sounds liek your needle is binding up on some part of the overlay....
