OK - I thought it was the fires here in CO.....
I've been smelling smoke come out of the heater for about 2 months now. At first it was just a whiff, and during the summer, I figured it was just environmental. Now, it's getting chilly, and when I turn on the heat it's a very strong odor. It even blows smoke - I haven't pinpointed a pattern yet. It smell like wood chips burning - very odd! The smoke is gray - any thoughts?

I think first thing is you should open up the fan box and clean the debris out of it. It's an easy procedure. A leaf has probably made contact with the motor and is catching on fire.

While you are cleaning out the fan, clean the leaves out of the heater intake grille (in-between the hood and winsheild on the outside)......
