I am driving all over the country and need something good. The cobra 29 has always been great but I HATE the chrome face. It definately has to be something good. So please make some suggestions.

I don't really have an great recommendations, but was always happy with Cobra back in the day. I notice now you can get a CB that costs anywhere from $40 to $100+. In my mind it's not worth spending too much on one. They all have the same power limit. And it all depends on what you want to spend too.

The thing is, they really dont have all the same power limit, They all have the same stock power limit, and there are many differences.

    Anyone?

The legal limit is 4 watts. 12 for SSB. And that's all we're talking about here.

Please dont make this into some FCC legal BS thread. I honestly dont really care about modding one. I want help picking a good one and was making an example based on your statement. I too know the laws and dont have an intention of breaking them. I want to find a good radio for a long road trip, that is all

I wasn't trying to make it into anything. And I guess I didn't understand your example. You said:

I don't see a CB that isn't 4 watts. And that's all I said; that they are all the same power. My recommendation was basically that any CB that has the features you need should work just about as well as the next. Am I wrong, maybe. Just offering my opinion. You didn't give any specifics, other than "it has to be good". Does it need weather, SSB, PA? You asked a general question, and I gave a general answer.

Thanks Froader. I havent heard anything about the 19 really. I have been toying with the idea of painting a 29, we shall see.

rizzjc, just because it isnt a ham radio doesnt mean that they are all the same.

Anyone eles that wants to be CONSTRUCTIVE?

I've had the same Cobra 29 for about 10 years now and it's still a great radio. If you're looking for something more compact the Cobra 25 is really nice and you can get pretty much all the same features of the 29 with a power mike. Galaxy & Ranger also make some nice radios that come with a black face and look a little more modern. Check out www.copper.com they have alot of radios to choose from.

    Selling A Galaxy DX959

If your interested, I am putting my Galaxy DX 959 Rig on ebay this weekend but I would much rather sell it to fellow X owner. I loved this rig but I really don't want to put it in my new Mounty. I think I am gonig to replace it with a Cobra Wx 75, the all in mic unit. I installed the Galaxy were the center vents used to be by doing a slight bit of trimming ( I can see the trim job in the picture but i doubt you can). It was slight only about a quarter of an inch. The unit is in excellent condition, I can post pictures if you like, I have even purchased a new power cord for it from the factory. i am looking for a hundred and fifty dollars ($150) for it which if you check froogle will be low pirce. I am also throwing in my external speaker. Let me know if your interested with an email to ExplorerKyle@gmail. Even if you don't buy mine I definitely recommend this as an awesome radio. Tons of features but not a great radio to be your first. Buy a cheap one first and learn the basics before you jump into something this complex otherwise your gonna plow a tree while trying to figure out why the talkback is on

    Good luck with your search!

I'm not a Earnhardt jr fan but they have a Dale jr edition of the cobra 29 with a black face.I think it's about $95 at copper electronics.

Saying all CBs are alike is much like saying all 4 wheel drives are created equal...

From my experience I have found that even tho they are all limited to 4 watts some are way better than the elchepos that I have owned. I have found the Cobra's to be much better when it comes to static, squelch, range, etc.s using the same antenna. My old Cobra works just fine. I want a newer one for sideband, weather reports, weather alerts etc. It will be a Cobra tho.

I had a nice Cobra years ago. I do like the weather alert that some of the radios have now though. That's a nice feature.
