Hi, I do have an Explorer 2002 4x4, right now I'm having a prolem:

@ 55 mph or more I'm hearing a noise hollow sound and also I'm feeling a huge vibration on my car. Such vibration is not present on the steering wheel. As soon as the gas pedal is released the vibration goes away.

The mechanic said the transmision is ok, he said it could be the shaft or either rear suspoension components.

Could somebody experienced something similar?

Thank you.

Jorge

Sounds like your rear differential is whining. Very common common problem, especially if you have the tow package(3.73 LS rear end).
