This radio has been in my Explorer for nearly 20 years... It still works great!!

I pulled it out to give it a cleaning after my Icom 2800 died. The 2800s LCD screen won't turn on any more. I don't think it has anything to do with dust.

    The dusty 706 is fine...

The 2800 is DOA unless I can find a new front panel.

Have you tried a heat gun fix to the LCD screen?

The contacts are under the black goo. Heat it up real good and use a pencil eraser to push the contacts back.

I used this video to repair a few dead lcd screens, yes the first one was on our sleep number bed controller.

They aren't really "dead", they just loose connection. They are not soldered in, the glue holds the contacts.

I wonder too if you could buy a used front panel, and would be able to hook it up to that radio, or if they are a matched pair. It's be kinda surprised, but who knows. Bound to be someone out there who sold a vehicle and didn't take the base out, but just grabbed the LCD.

I need a detachable face unit next. That's all that will fit in my new car.

I've been looking for used 2800 stuff, but no luck as of yet :(

706 has been cleaned up and it's back in service :D

Nice! I'm looking for a used detachable face dual bander for the car. Not much available that's worth buying used. Guess I'll just save up for a new one.

Tough to find the detachable-face dual band rigs used. I got lucky and picked up a IC207 at the Cary swapfest this year.

In my '97 I had a IC2100H mounted over the tissue slot, but it blocked one of the cupholders.....

Too bad I wasn't looking for one then. I probably saw that radio there. Usually when I am looking they want almost as much as new.
