    I didn't have time to read the Snopes article but they are pretty good at confirming or denying stuff.

    Yes, new cars especially have a lot of plastics and such that outgas chemicals when they're new. That's what the "new car smell" really is... not to mention that it doesn't really smell good, we just associate it with the positive feelings from driving around something shiny and new. The chems aren't good for us, but I doubt it would give you cancer. Unless you spent every moment of your life inside a brand new auto. Maybe the chems have gone to the heads of the auto-journalists who claim we all need a Camry or a Prius?

    Older cars don't have much outgassing left to do so they're safer - that's why I drive first gen Explorers, they're better for my health! Not because I'm poor or anything... ;)
