hello, im tryin to find my VSS on my explorer 1998 automatic, i found this, i dont know if it is the vss. it is magnetic.

Well, I can't see your picture but the VSS for yours is located on the top of the rear differential.
 












What component were you looking at where you think it is? Your transmission, transfer case, or rear differential?

THIS is on the transmission (on top a bit left) it is magnetic., on my transfer case got nothing, in rear diff got 1 the abs sensor, my speedometer works fine. i got P0500 code, means VSS malfuntion.
 






For 1998 and up, the VSS and ABS sensor are one and the same. It's located on the top of the rear differential. To be honest, I'm not sure what sensor it is that you're talking about on the trans. Trans input speed sensor maybe?
