The phone itself isn't used as a scanner. It picks up scanner feeds via an app so no extra antenna is needed. Google "Android scanner app".

on the IPhone its an app called 5-0 radio pro. I can get police/fire/airports etc from all over the world. Many are captures OTA and re-broadcast on the 'net.

Really? because they use the shit out of them outside the US. All day long. Go look at pics of AQ in Afg using ht radios with the two foot rubber duck antennas.

See, you're way missing the boat here. I'm not talking about UHF conventional, or even 700Mhz P25 digital with AES for law enforcement purposes. We aren't talking about that; which is why I sort of blew off the pics of the car with all the 2mtr/70cm stuff in it.

Again, no need to really jump into this too deeply, but:

Hint one - we were talking in front of the white house.
Hint two - go google MILSTAR and ALE and CREW.

(By the way, I know of a few agencies that still are on VHF-Lo band. Our highway patrol here in tennessee, the state emergency management agency...)

    You're kidding me, right?

Reading you loud and clear on the sarcasm. And, right back at you.

    You're onto something there.

I have no idea what you're alluding to.

Anyway, I don't know what to tell y'all. You're welcome to think they were bored and nosey.

About the scanner aps, if you just have internet, you can google radioreference.com . There's another place, but I forget. They have tons of feeds, problem is many times they are delayed. But it is kind of funny to have people that think they know about radios hear radio traffic coming from one of my telephones!
