Hello,

My 1992 Eddie Bauer Explorer's engine purrs along perfectly when the vehicle is in neutral or park. When I put it in gear (and the engine is warm) there is a knocking sound from underneath whenever I have my foot on the brake.

When I start driving, it goes away. It doesn't happen when the engine is cold.

I am having a hard time locating the problem.

The transmission shifts fine all the time.

Any ideas on where to go from here would be much appreciated...

Thanks!

Have someone else put it in gear with you underneath (parking brake on, foot on brake of course). See if you can pinpoint the source of the noise. A mechanic's stethoscope may be very helpful here.

I got the same problem with my truck but it does it in drive and reverse and i cant pin point it either someone told me its the torque converter hitting the bell housing but i dont no
