Lifts and max tire and wheel sizes for explorers
This is a quick reference guide I have put together based on information gathered from the Explorer Forum. Remember this is just a guide. You may have to do some fender trimming to fit these tires on your explorer. Others things can change what size tire you can run on your explorer. Like fiberglass fenders, rim width and rim backspacing.. I figured this would help some of you that were pondering what size lift to run what size tires. If anyone would like to add something go ahead and post it and I will add it to my list. If any of the moderators could make this a sticky that would be great. Hope this helps.

Well, the truck will be up about 1.5" from the suspension, and about 1" from the tires. So a total of 2-3".

tire sizing again

hey guys, im pretty new to all this. i just got a 2000 2wd explorer sport. i was hoping i could run 32's wtih 3 inches of lift doing a tortion and aal in the back. does this require extensive trimming or should it fit ok>

this may be a really dumb question....but i am looking online for tires and they are all in format like (235/75/r15) when i want 32x11.50....what is the first format equivelent to 32x11.50?

there is a metric tire size calculator at www.4lo.com

i have a set of 35" Pro Comp MT'S and they are the BEST thing i have ever bought i have them on my 88 chevy burban with 8" and big block i go more places with them then my buddy with BOGGERS

Max tire size

I have a complete stock 93 explorer and I just ordered the James Duff stage1, 2.5" suspension lift. What is the max tire size that i can go with? Without worring about trimming. Please include with and without using the torsion bar trick.

If this is for a '93 then you don't have torsion bars. (Only '95 and up had them.) The biggest tire you could put on with that lift and no trimming would be 31's. You could fit 32's with some minor fender trimming though.

sorry if i posted wrong

This is my first time using this chat thing sorry, but I was wondering , on a 95 to 97 explorer 4x4 with a 3 inch body and a 2 inch suspension could you fit 33x12.50's on a 10 inch rim? I was just wondering cause noone was saying anything about 10inch rims (wide that is) , alrite thanx

Lifting my 97 Sport soon (33" question)

Hey, I'm lifting my 97 sport soon, and will be doing 2 stages worth of work.

Stage 1:
I'm going to do the TT to a full 2". I am ordering used leaf springs from a 4-door t replace the mono-leaf. I will be putting these leaf springs, an add-a-leaf, and adding WAR 153 shackles. I will also be replacing all 4 shocks with Rancho 5000's. I consider the AAL necessary because I have backend sag. In fact my rear wheel-wells are a full inch lower than my front wells. This stage should give me 2" in the front and hopefully close to 3" in the back evening out my clearance in the front and back.

Stage 2:
3" PA body lift + new bumper brackets.

So I'm looking at about 5" of lift when all is said and done in the end. However, I'm debating whether to go with 32x11.5's or 33x12.5's. And if I went with the 33's, could I get 15x10" rims to fit on my EX?

I'm going with the 3" body lift, WAR153 shackles, AAL, TT, and hopefully perrys front fenders. Will it be at all possible to fit 35x12.50x15s?

I actually might just get a body lift, wait scratch that, too lazy, maybe a skyjacker 6" lift would be fine for me :D

Max tire Size

I have a 93 X and i put a James Duff 2" suspension lift and a 2" body lift. What is the max size At tire that i can put on without any trimming?

anyone ran 33/12.5/15 on 15x7 rims? 90% highway and rarely offroad. what do u think? safe or not safe?

it has been done before. id say safe but id really try and get 15x8 soon as you can.

anyone have vibration issues with 31 10.5 15 on a stock explorer? Anything else I should know about?

I have a 98 V8 AWD.

You really should have no problems running 31's. Plenty of people on this board are running them or have run them before. I am running 32's and at first I ran them on the stock rims and had no vibrations at all so I would say don't worry too much about vibrations.

Thanks for the info.

Is there any rubbing issues? I dont want to lift the thing.

Every Explorer is a little different(don't ask me why though) because of this, You might have a little rub or you might not have any. If you have any rub at all, it won't be bad and it will probably be only at full steering lock. I wouldn't worry too much about it though. It will be minimum at best, I'd say.

Well I placed an order at tirerack.com and they refused to sell me the 31's. I could have canceled the order and reordered useing different vehicle information but decided to just stay with the stockers. I ordered Yokohama Geolandar A/T Plus II C in the 235 75 15 size. Anyone have experience with this tire?

Again thanks for the information! This is a great site.
