Lifts and max tire and wheel sizes for explorers
This is a quick reference guide I have put together based on information gathered from the Explorer Forum. Remember this is just a guide. You may have to do some fender trimming to fit these tires on your explorer. Others things can change what size tire you can run on your explorer. Like fiberglass fenders, rim width and rim backspacing.. I figured this would help some of you that were pondering what size lift to run what size tires. If anyone would like to add something go ahead and post it and I will add it to my list. If any of the moderators could make this a sticky that would be great. Hope this helps.

I did a 2.5" torsion twist and 2.5" add a leaf and shackles at the rear and could only fit 31x10.5x15 muddies on my 96 XLT because the 32" tires would rub on the upper ball joint on the control arm...

What gives? Need a wheel spacer or do they make 32x10.5x15?

Cheers,

Jake

I have a 2006 Explorer, and I'm looking to put some 275/70/R17 Size Tires on with 2-3" body lift, would this work?

I would like to run 285/75/16s on my 98 Explorer. I already did the TT & warrior shackles & AAL for the suspension & a Ranger 3" BL kit. My explorer has 3.73 gears, But im assuming I should have gears changed to 4.10s for that size tire.
In 2015 I swapped my 265/75/16 MT from my Ranger to the Explorer for a trip to Montana in December. At that time I only had suspension lift mods done. After getting back to WA. from MT. I put stock 235/75/15s back onto explorer for MPG.
With the 265/75/16s I had to remove the front end caps from the lower body trim to prevent tire rub during turns.
Im assuming that with the end caps back in place & a 3" BL installed 265s or 285s shouldn't be an issue.

Any one running my Suspension Mods with 3" BL & 265 or 285 /16s on there 95-2001 explorer? If so any rub issues?

Anyone know if a 10 inch wide rim will fit a stock 93 explorer? 4" offset I velibel

I hope this is okay to ask.
I see with a 2" body lift that it says 31's with a 15x8 Rim.
What if i did 2" body lift on 15x7" rims.

Would that make any real difference?
Ideally id like to reduce as much rub as possible but i am also super cheap.

I had tought of the f150 seats but i heard that if you do that alignment can be a REAL hassle.
Or i could go with 1.5" lift Springs and rear Shackles?

(i didnt want to make YET ANOTHER new thread asking this lol )

I'm having 2 issues with my Explorer. One may not belong in this thread and I can remove and put elsewhere if not. I have the 3" body lift, 2" tt and shackles in the back. I'm running 33x12.5x15 with a 2" spacer and it appears that trimming the fender will not be enough and I would need to trim metal behind the fender. Does this make any sense or are my eyes playing tricks on me? I do not want to chop up the fender if I'm not going to be able to run these tires, I will just throw them on my F150 and get a different tire for the X. The other issue I have is that even while the vehicle was still completely stock, the front tires point in towards the top. They are so noticable that I have had a few different people tell me about it (not garages). I did the alignment when I was working in a shop and everything was perfectly in spec according to the machine and it was a brand new machine at that point. Everything except the wheel bearings in the front suspension have been replaced, shocks, upper and lower ball joints, I+O tie rods, getting ready to do the rack soon. I do not remember for sure from when I did it, but looking at and feeling the upper control arms, it feels like the adjustments for them are all the way out. I was hoping the TT would help some, however it didn't seem to make any difference. Any ideas on that too?

It's a 96 5.0 AWD Eddie Bauer if that helps.

I would like to add, ive been running 31's for 2 years now and they only rub at full lock on the front of the sway bar.

I am replacing the OEM tires of my Explorer and I need your tire recommendation. Which brand or model fits my 2014 SUV? What is the largest size I can set up on this car? I need all-season tires to match with my Black Rhino wheels.

Here is my Explorer on 31x10.50r15, 2" suspension lift, shackles, add a leaf, and Monroe air shocks in the back, I need new tires, (BFG ko2s) and am looking at 31x10.50, 32x11.5, or 33x10.5, I have read the whole post here (including the chart at the beginning) and it states "32x11.50x15 on 15x8 rims/ may require some extensive fender trimming
2-3 inch suspension lift- 32x11.50x15 on 15x8 rims
3-4 inch suspension lift- 32x11.50x15 - 33x12.50x15 on 15x8 rims/ may require fender trimming" 33x10.5 are not listed, how do they fit compared to 32x11.5, and how much/which part of the fender am I trimming? (inner steel, outer fender steel, just the liner...) any input would be appreciated

What about 33x12.50x16 or 33x12.50x20 or 10"wide rims and what about offset. I have an 02 sport track stock at the moment i just rolled over an 02 ranger so had to get into this one and its going vertical soon. Lookin to turbo the 4.0L v6 to pull the 35x12.50x16 or mabe 20

welcome. what kind of lift do you have? aint no way 33s will fit stock! 31s maybe since iirc the ST has a bit larger fender well. for 33s id bet on TT shackle and a BL of some sort to make it work. or TT shackle and a good deal of trimming

here this fella did TT shackle and trimming to fit 33s. however, he has a 2wd. if you have 2wd, you could crank the bars up above 2 inches of lift (although itll ride like hay wagon), but if you have 4wd, you stay under 2" more like 1.75 probably, so you would need to trim mroe than he. so id bet on something liek tt shackle and BL to make those 33s man
