Loss of power and overdrive light flashing

I have a 98 explorer 4x4 shoc v6 and today when i turned the car on it started fine however when i started to drive the and got to around 30 mph the over drive light started flashing and then the rpm's started reving up real high like between 4500 and 5000 rpms and it loss power as in 45mph is as fast as it would go whats the deal????
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

transmission trouble, thats what a blinking od light means

sounds like it might not be shifting out of 2nd gear

4x4 stuck in low range?

no the 4x4 is not even on it is just in auto there is just a high revving sound like its stuck in gear or like it sounds when u put it in first high rpm low horsepower 40to45 mph is all she will do
