My 10 month old TV died today, i am very sad.

    well here she is, my baby she's dead. RIP. :mad:

    Well I got here in late November of 2004 she is a 53" RCA wide screen HDTV. I saved for weeks to get her. And today I get a call at work she started sparking then died. At 7:30 PM EST. It really felt like I got hit in the belly, and sick at the same time, and it felt like that till I gave home to see her for the last time.


    So what do I do but plug her back in to see an amazingly show of blue sparks from the rear vents SEE #2, but the sparks were said to come from SEE #1.

    So I unplugged here.

    Then I lost the receipt, but I did find owner's Manuel, and located the warranty #, but they are closed.

    in the manual it said labor and parts were covered for 1 year, cool she is 10 months :mad:

    so I then go on line to find an old statement, but it only goes back 6 months, after that I call my Card people at 10:30 and they said that they too can only go back 6 month also. :mad: But they can send me old statements in 10-14 days cool :D so I tell then Oct.Nov.Dec 2004 and Jan 2005.

    but I need proof of sale, Visa said that when I get my statements call them back tell then the amount, the retailer, and date. and they can get me a sales recite. In 4-6 weeks which will still be real close to one year.

    And I will write down every phone I make to RCA.

    So can Visa really get a year old recite??

    And what else can you all tell me??? HELP?????

    You should be ok I got a recipt through my bank for a charge I made over 1yr ago...but I also have a government run bank so they might be different than visa or what have you. Try cleaning back there it looks alittle dusty my tv started to spark do to dust and static build up and it fried the inside circuits. Best luck too you.

    Oh ya it totalled it! almost burnt down my parents town home (happened many moons ago) cause the TV acually caught on fire when no one was home cause I forgot to turn it off before going to school and I came home for lunch and found my room on fire I got there probably 8mins after it sparked and caught the carpet on fire said the firefighter so it wasn't too bad but bad anuff.

    Couldn't you get a receipt from the retailer you bought it from? I know Circuit City has that stuff on file. I did a warrenty on an old Packard Bell computer back in the day. I had like a 2 year warrenty I believe and the receipt I had was so faded you couldn't read it but they had everything in their system just from typing in my name. They printed me out a new reciept and everything...

    well I called RCA at 1-877-RCA-HDTV, am talked to some @ss named, well I do not know his name, but he seemed like a Chet, Brad, or Taylor just an @ss.

    So he tells me that w/o a receipt or invoice all he can do is give me a local TV guy.

    me:So You will cover it?
    him:NO.
    me:but it is less the 12 months, so will you cover it?
    him: Yes
    me: Ok
    him: with a receipt
    me: But I am getting a statement from Visa (he cuts in)
    him: they do not have your receipt (I now cut in)
    me: But I am getting a statement from Visa, and they said they can get a receipt, but I might not get it for 4-6 weeks. would it still be covered?
    him: if it is in 12 months
    me: but it is broke today!
    him: but you do not have a receipt today.
    me: so you are telling me if I get the receipt in two months but the 12 months ended by one day you ( he cuts in again)
    him: it would be out of warranty
    me:but it is broke today
    him: but you do not have your receipt today

    you can see how this went, till

    me: can I talk to some one else?
    him: No.
    me: (me thinking WTF) can I talk to your boss?
    him: I am the boss, I answering phones but of high call volume.
    me: can I talk to your boss?
    him: I am the boss
    me:someone high then you?
    him: I am the highest
    me: (thinking what is your name Mr. RCA?)

    but atlas him told me to the re tailor, which I called and Ethel?? called me back before I could finish typing this :D :D :D :D :D :D

    ps this is the last RCA product i will ever buy, because of an @ss.

    That sucks. I just dropped over $1200 on a new sony tv for my bedroom, it better last much much longer than 10 months.

    Your best bet is to ask for the corporate office. In the line of work I'm in, often times when their is a issue with a work order where a customer is told one thing by the salesman at the store and I am told something else, I usually have them speak directly to the corporate office customer care center.

    well i called back i longer care about that guy, i talked i a lady that gave he the same local #, i called them and they will by here between 2-6pm to fix it. i work 2-10, great. the next opening is on friday next week!!!

    so hopfully i can get someone in my family over here that day.

    But here is my next problem, do i plug it in and watch it fry, record it and post the vid here and hope i get a new set, or not. with my luck that would some how would void my warrenty. but it was a passing thought.

    Too bad on the Big Screen...ouch

    You should check out consumer reports on that brand of BigScreen and see waht they say. I work for Wally World and know for a fact the RCA brand really sucks. Many, many, many have gone bad...many small screens and at least 50% of the Big Screens get returned for reasons of, power source going bad, green or red lines running horiz. through screen,fuzzy picture and something on the main board shorts out.
    Some people get lucky and get a good one.

    well update time, the TV broke on Sept 25th, i talked to the repair guys on the 26th they came out on the friday the 30th and said is was the transfromer? well who would have thought that the RCA repair agents SUCK too. today is Oct 19th and nada. i have been calling them for the past few days and only getting they voice mail.
    So i called RCA today and they call the repair guys and got there voice mail. RCA said call back in 3-5 days, i asked for a loner tv and RCA said they do not do that.

    Man that sucks. I know I would be pissed. You know, word of mouth can be good ( or bad ) advertising. You tell RCA I said that. Who else will back this up?
