After going with Morimoto hid projectors last year, I wanted my fog lights to match my 5500k headlights in terms of color and output. I thought about led bulbs but couldn’t live with the glare that I’d be causing for other drivers. So I opted for a led fog light assembly with a cutoff.

I finally bought some Type S fog lights and got to work figuring out how to mount them.

I wanted to use the stock fog light bolt holes but they don’t make adaptors for second gen Explorers, and the new fog lights wouldn’t fit that way as they stick out further than the stock lights. I got lucky because the Type S mounts fit perfectly into the fog light bracket.

I then drilled 4 holes for mounting using the fog light mounting tabs as a guide.

After that it was a matter of finding the right length bolts and spacers. I went with 1/4-20x3 hex tap bolts and 3/4 inch spacers. I put the spacers between the fog light brackets and the fog light mounting tabs.

The bolts came out at an angle on the back of the fog light bracket, but it wasn’t a huge deal. Anyone with better drilling skills than me should be able to avoid this problem :D

I then used self locking nuts to secure the lights. Remember to be careful when tightening everything down as the mounting tabs where the bolts go are plastic. I bent mine a bit but they still work fine.

Here’s the result. Note that these 90mm fog lights have a smaller diameter than the stock lights, so there’s space between the fog light bumper trim and the lens. But it’s only noticeable up close.

Here’s a picture with the headlights on. They look dim above the cutoff so you know you won’t be blinding anyone.

But at night the output is amazing.

I debated buying them for a year due to the price tag of $180. But I see their value whenever I drive at night. I’m still working on aiming them just right, but the built in aiming screws make lowering and raising the cutoff easy.

Looks great. I'm planning to add LED fog lights on my rig also.

Thanks. There’s a large variety of led fog lights out there. Many just require some modification to fit.

It looks great of the replacement. I recently put a set in my 2010 F350. I had great results with my motorcycle conversion.

Cool. Morimoto makes some good lighting products. I definitely go with them whenever I add something new. I recently isnatalled some of their DRLs in my bumper. They switch on and off with the turn signals too.
