      Was out driving the X, came home shut it off. Went back outside to move it now it won't start!!!!!! There is no grinding, just clicking. What do you think it is? Battery?

      Your batt is probably dead due to a bad alternator...Was it reading a charge when it was running?

      No your battery is just old, that's why it's dead. It's about time for the 97 model year batteries to go out. Next year the original 98 batteries will start dying and so on.

      Did a little testing, voltage droped to under 8 volts with the key on, according to my service manual it should be at least 9.6.

      I went up and got a new Motorcraft battery (on sale :) ) and installed it, starts fine now!

      My 89 Ranger would go thru a battery about every two or three years. I was on the fifth battery when I sold it (3rd Sears Diehard - they arent as good as they once were IMO)

      My 97 Explorer is still going strong on the original battery.(Go figure) I've been carrying jumper cables for the last two years expecting it to die any minute. The heat of summer usually kills batteries here.
