Hey guys! I've been thinking about signing up for one of these DVD-in-the-mail things. I don't know which to choose! Tell me your experiences/opinions.

      Here's what I've gotten:

      Net Flix
      $17.99/month 3s DVD at a time
      Been around forever, trusted

      Blockbuster
      $17.49/month 3 DVDs at a time
Includes 2 free in-store movie or game rentals per month
When USPS scans your return, it goes into Blockbuster's system and they send out your new DVD, instead of waiting until it arrives at their warehouse

I have a little more info on the Blockbuster one since the guy at the store was telling me about it. Plus its 50 cents cheaper :D But is Net Flix more reliable? How about selection? What are your experiences?

Blockbuster brick and mortars are losing money hand over fist I hear, they are going to phase out late fees next year, so it's no wonder they are trying to horn in on this market. My buddy has netflix and that seems to work well (i.e. - reliable and quick shipping, good selection). Either one is probably a good deal, and if they start getting into price wars with each other (think of how local gas stations do) then you as the consumer will benifit from lower fees.

Bringing this thread back up. Hoping to get more response. :)

No experience with Netflix but do have with Blockbuster. The turn around time is one to two days. That's the good part. The bad part, their DVDs are so used up 2 out of every 8 freezes up. That's very frustrating when your in the middle of the movie and you just wish to finish the movie.

Anyone got any input on NetFlix?

I've had NetFlix for a couple months and it's really good. Since they're in WA the DVD's get here in one day. I think they clean the DVD's or something because they're never scratched.

netflix is the better one. now for the reason... there are at least 1 distributorship in each state that netflix owns, thus that means your movies get to you faster. blockbuster only is starting to get in the game, thus their distributorships might not be geographically good for your location. for example, it's a three day turnaround from when i send off the movie to when i receive a new one from netflix. when i was signed up with blockbuster, it took sometimes a week or even more for a movie to come to my mailbox. that means less movies for you to view, even though you pay less....

I get my netflix movie the day after I ask for it, at the latest.

I tried blockbuster for two weeks and they lost one movie and never delievered under one day.

I was using netflix for a few months. The final month the movies were taking 5-6 days to get to me. They would receive two movies on the same day. Ship one out the following day, ship the other out 3 days later. Last month I think I only got to see 5/6 movies =\. I'm in miami btw.

Along these lines, if interested in trying blockbuster for trial, check out www.gotapex.com and scroll down and click on link under blockbuster deal. $9.99 for first month, 14.99 thereafter. Still 3 movies out also. Been considering myself with this deal, but from what I've heard from everyone I know - netflix still faster. Best bet is to check out distribution center location from where you live. Living in Cali - netflix is next day.

I've neen with Netflix for a few months and just cancelled Blockbuster during the free trial period. The movies shipped faster and were in stock more with NF. For a recent example, on Monday I mailed three movies and today, Wednesday, I got three in return. Only twice I've had to wait more than a day for a movie to ship. They were DVD's released that day and the wait was only an extra day.

I say sign up for both, utilize the free trials, and see which works best for you.

I've had Netflix for over a year now, and they are always prompt with shipping stuff out. I've gotten a couple of damaged discs and one that never arrived. As soon as I reported them they sent me out replacements.

I agree that the Blockbuster deal sounds good, since you have the 2 free in-store rentals, so you could pick up a movie at the last minute.

Well, I just joined NetFlix.

I didn't know, besides the $18 for 3 movies, they also offer $24 per month for 4 movies. Also $12 for 2. You could receive up to 8 movies at one time for $48. Pretty cool if you're a die hard movie fan.

      My first three choices:
      1. Scarface: 20th Anniversary Edition
      2. Terminal
      3. It's a Wonderful Life (1946) <--- don't ask. :D

No complaints here with them especially befre we moved they opened up another distribution center the next town over. and we would get movies the next day afer selecting them via website.
      My vote goes for
      NETFLIX

Been with Netflix for nearly 5 years now. I always get the movies a day before they say they will arrive. So usually the day after they ship it. It all depends on how close you are to a distribution center. Mine is only 40 miles away. :)

i don't think i could use one of those services, i can hardly make up my mind at blockbuster stores let alone trying to pick one to watch days later lol...but it sounds like the blockbuster one might be better, but i have not done it so i can't really say...

Got my first three DVD's today. A day earlier than expected... as expected. :) Right off the bat I noticed that the disc surface on the NetFlix has A LOT less scratches on them compared to the BlockBusters. Almost new!

No need to keep two subscriptions- see ya, Blockbusters! :thumbdwn:
