A friend of ours had to give up their dog. Her autistic son had become abusive with the dog :( Additionally the mother had hit hard times and wasn't able to properly care for the dog either. She was infested with tics and mites and was very underweight. Feeding her kids took precedent over feeding and treating their dog. Thankfully she knew what she had to do, and we were able to help.

Since all the tics have been killed her energy is back and she definitely does her job as a retriever... She loves to play ball in the backyard.

Clyde doesn't play fetch, but he sure likes her to run along with him:thumbsup:

In the photo you can see that it's lighter around her eyes. That's where the vet had to remove the hair and scrape her skin to remove the mite infestation:eek: When we got her it looked like she had burns around both eyes. They've healed a bit in the photo, and now they are completely covered with hair and she's looking good again.

Gonna be a happy dog in a loving home.

Her back half looks just like Lucy with white tip on tail and white socks.

    Thumbs up!

Yep, y'all are good folks for rescuing her.

I have a rescue too. We got her from PAWS IN PRISON. Took her for her first heart worm shots and she came back positive. She was 7 months old and Doc says it takes 6 months for the heart worms to mature, apparently they can't be detected until mature. We immediately went into the procedures to cure here. How you keep a 7 month old puppy from "over exerting" is beyond me, but momma bear did good. We'll find out in two weeks if the treatments were successful. I don't know about you, but when I die, I want to go to Animal Heaven, surely there's a place THERE for me LOL.

Anyway, she's sure the queen and it didn't take momma bear two weeks to deprogram her. Hell, she doesn't even know what the word "NO" means anymore LOL.

You know how Hotels stack the "little" pillows? She didn't take long to claim her Nest LOL. I love this pic!

I know this is a bit of an old thread, but nice job on the rescue Rick, you and Char are good people, for sure :). I'm sure the dog knows life is better now!

I also give props to the dogs owner for being willing to find it a better home. When I was actively involved with a local animal shelter here, it often broke my heart to see people bring in dogs and cats to surrender them... often with the lamest of excuses "we are moving and can't take him with" or "we had a baby and decided we couldn't have two..." yada yada. We used to get a lot of people who would bring in dogs that they had had for 13-14 years and knew the dog was dying but not willing to put it down so they'd bring it in, and those pissed me off more than anything... like "it only has a few weeks left, I'm sure this shelter can find a good home for it..." Often times, no, no we can't, and it's final weeks will be spent in confusing surroundings. I've been there when we put down our last two dogs, both times we had little choice, and each time the vet would ask if I wanted to be there. Absolutely, I want the last person they see to be the one htey loved, not some scary doctor... But when people were truly sad about it, liked the dogs but knew they really couldn't afford the dog, etc. thats when it was heartbreaking... but also glad that the dog would have a better chance at life.
