I just bought a 1995 Explorer from my sister for 500.00 dollars, that's the good part. It runs decent but the transmission feels mushy and like its slipping. I'm going to have to replace the windsheild and possibly the front passenger door but I got a junkyard close by where I can get parts really cheap, like 10 dollar windscreens and 25 dollars for a door. I have rebuilt a couple C-4 and C-6 transmissions but it has been about 15 years ago. Is there a known problem with these transmissions and how do I know what I have in mine.

Welcome to the forum! You should be able to search and read the transmission section. I believe you have a 4r55 trans in you Ex.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to rebuild my tranny. I drove it about forty miles today and it shifted like it was mushing into gear and it is definatly slipping some at hiway speed on hills.
