Just picked up a 2003 explorer XLT with 78k miles.
Its black with the V8 and 4x4. has sunroof, leather and 3rd row seating.
I used to have a 98 Mountaineer and am really liking my new Explorer.

When I got it the battery in the keyless entry remote was dead.
I put a new battery in and follower the instructions in the book.
Turn key from position 1 to 3 eight times then doors will lock/unlock and so on.
now when I push and buttons on the remote it just setd the alarm off. If I hit a button again it turns it off.

    Any ideas???

Just a thought, but can the remotes go bad? I'm wondering if it got wet and something crossed perhaps? Do you have any more remotes to try it out with?

i dont have another remote. The guy only had one remote and one key. I thinl I am going to buy another remote and key anyways and try that.
Wheres the best place to get a remote. Dont want to go to the rip off dealer.

it sounds like your remote is not working correctly.

If you're going to get a new one and a new key, consider something like this

    http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213239

A key from a 08 fusion or edge.
I have 2 and they work great, its nice not to have a key and a fob. Less on the keyring is always better

Because you only have 1 key, a locksmith will have to program you a second key.
Once you have 2 you can program a 3rd or 4th yourself.
the dealer has crazy prices for this. Find a local locksmith that can do it. I paid $80 to program the new keys because I only had 1. Actually I paid $80 for the second key and the guy did the 3rd for free because no computer is needed.

When you only have one key, the locksmith has to use a computer to add a 2nd. Then when you have 2, its only a matter of a sequence of ignition turns and lock cycles to program the 3rd.
