Hi All,
I am new here but have had many Explorers over the years...
This one I got from a friend in need... needed a fuel pump and she could not afford to do the repair.. so I got a good deal on it... and was very happy with the vehicle..
Then...
I did the unthinkable... late at night in the dark.. I put a brand new battery in "BACKWARDS"... it sparked for a second before I realized what was happening and disconnected it...But the damage was done...
It started fine right after the incident, but the next morning it would crank but not start..
After hours of testing and online research and chats.. I have this to report..
-still cannot start the vehicle.... go figure..
But..
- replaced the Fulel pump 30 amp fuse, checked all the relays (ecc and fuel) AND all the fuses in the power block and in the fuse panel.
- radio does not work.. although both power leads have power.. (note the radio does not have a fuse in the power feeds)..
-the check engine light does NOT COME ON AT ALL.. when turning the key to ACC or Start.
- it cranks and has spark and fuel, up to the fuel rail. When starting fluid is sprayed into the intake manifold, it will start and run until that fuel runs out.
- the fuel injectors do not have a "pulse" as far as I can tell.BUT .. both wires to all the fuel injectors HAVE POWER when the key is on ACC..(I do not think this is normal).
- When I hook up a OBD! meter to the ECC diagnostic connectors (according to the manual) there is no reading..
-I have checked the fuel and ECC relays and connections and all the fused in the power box and the fuse panel.. they seem fine.
- tried to check the crankshaft sensor (but it has only 2 wire and not sure h9w to test).
Help... I am out of ideas and time and money... and really need to get this baby on the road...
Thanks in advance for ANY advice or assistance you all may have to offer..
Guy
