Well, i received my new KKM True-Rev Intake today, but i'm kinda disappointed...I was looking forward to getting one with the blue trim ring and "handpainted" S&B logo/script. Here's what i got, in a plain white box: (let me know if the pic doesn't show - i haven't quite mastered the pic insert process)

It looks as if i bought one of the eBay $25 intake kits. Anyone else recently get one similar to mine - generically packaged?

Also, should i pre-oil this thing?

      Here's the Deal...

Well, i took the initiative and eMailed KKM - i've gotta say that their eMail response time is second to none - here's what i got:

      "Chris,

Still nothing but the best! S&B no longer offers a painted and screen printed end cap. It seems that us and one other company were requesting them, whereas everyone else ordered chrome, so we were forced to conform. As well, S&B changed their box to a flashy printed box, but it was not strong enough to ship in. Be assured, we have not reduced the quality of our products in any respect and never plan to.

      Warren

      info@kustomz.com

      www.kustomz.com"

So that's that - stuck with the "bling-bling" inside the engine compartment. I guess i need to go out and buy the chromed (stainless?) MAF and MAC-type intake pipe to "conform"

Yeah, i've found a few websites that sell the filters in different colors, so i'm not so concerned anymore...i can definitely see why they'd be forced to "conform" - nowadays, most people would rather have the bling-bling...personally, i just want it to work

If you still want the blue KKM, let me know. I have one and I'm sure it's still in great condition. I'll check on it and take some pics. I just got a new huge K&N with a huge maf as well. I was going to wait until I installed the new motor but if you'd like it, I can ship it to you.

Thanks, but as a cheaper mod-mod, i may just paint it myself or hit the chrome with permanent marker...after it's installed, i may not even notice it anyway...

It's not just the adapter, but the eBay adapters are crudely machined and don't always fit correctly. The aluminum or whatever they use is lesser quality and even the slightest bit of excess torque on the bolts will strip the adapter. The filter, also, is not the same as the package on eBay. The KKM has a hollow core as opposed to the solid chrome plate. THe KKM allows MUCH more air than the eBay version. A friend bought one and soon thereafter bought a KKM.

Yeah I just got one too and it looks exactly like yours Buffalo. I don't mind the chrome ring and once it's in you don't even notice.

Yup, it does....i hadn't seen that one...well, buy it and let us know what it's like

FYI - if you buy it, depending on the application, you'll need a spacer ring that goes on your MAS before it'll fit on your intake tube. I know this to be true of the OHV V6, but someone else with a SOHC v6/8 would need to chime in

I just installed my KKM yesterday in 20 minutes when my Throttle Body install was stalled by the need for extra parts...it sounds good when you get on it in city driving, but it's EXTREMELY intense on highway accelleration (i.e. from a dead stop at a toll booth to 80 mph). So intense that i think the wife is gonna know i've been moddin' again! VROOOOOM!!!

I ended up buying it because for 20$ shipped what can I lose. Ill write a review on it

As for the spacer ring, never hard of it or read about it when I searched the forums, could have been something i missed? I didnt buy after market tubing or anything, just an adapter so I can put a cone filter on the end of the MAS...

as for it being louder, good! Next weekend I am getting flowmaster SUV 50 series duals installed so it should compliment it nicely

It comes as part of the KKM pack - but if yours is the SOHC i'm not sure if you'd need it...

When you eliminate your airbox with the intake, you install the intake onto the maf and the maf onto your intake tube. When you remove your maf from the housing, note the difference between the maf outlet size and the airbox outlet size. The MAF is about 3/4" smaller (diameter). Now, remember, this is on my OHV4.0.

It's a ring made of rubber/fiber that makes up the inch or so diameter difference between the maf outlet and intake tube inlet. Unfortunately, i already installed it and cannot get you pics.

Also, i believe that with an aftermarket MAF it (the ring) wouldn't be necessary b/c of the larger diameter outlet on the new sensor
