00 Ford Explorer 5.0L V8
Hello everyone, I am new to this forum amd forums in general but I am happy I found it. I just purchased a 2000 ford explorer with a 5.0 L V8 and I'm hoping that I can get some advice on an issue that has arisen. When it is idling there is an excessive amount of white smoke coming from the exhaust. It doesn't smell like coolant or oil, but the guy I bought it from said it was burning oil. Is there anyone that can help me somehow find an answer to my dilemma and possibly find a fix? It has 157000 miles and I'd love to keep it till 300k

Well it could just be burning oil,

However if it is white smoke and only at idle, sounds like it may be sucking transmission fluid from the vacuum modulator.

Disconnect the vacuum line from the trans, plug the line with a bolt and run it for an hour or so and see if it stop smoke'n.

You can drive it like that but it won't shift right on it's own, but you can manually shift.

Of course all of this is nonsense if it's a standard. Did they even make a standard with a V8?

Probably not: To racy for the safety police!
