I'm trying to figure out what transmission is in my friends 04 explorer xlt. The code on the door is V .... Is that a 5R55S? Also the o/d light is flashing & the tranny isn't shifting wright. Is it the solenoid inside the tranny & is this job hard to do?

If you enter his VIN# at fordparts.com it should tell you exactly which tranny he has.

Swapping out the solenoid isn't that hard of a job, I'm sure you'll be fine doing it. But it could possibly be either the Solenoid Pack or O/D Servo. Have you run the codes?
