I took my Explorer to one of those drive thru oil change places (never again, I'll do it myself). They did the full inspection and when they pulled my air filter, it was covered in oil. I looked and it was all over in my air inlet tube too. I don't know much about Explorers since I just bought mine. What would be causing this?

Thanks in advance,

Jason

P.S. It's a 97 XLT with the 4.0 L SOHC

Maybe they did it!

I'm not talking about squirt the oil on the shocks routine. There is a hose from near the top of the oil filler tube to the air duct. Qiuck lube places pump in oil from drums and if the fill nozzel isn't placed properly, the force could cause oil to go to the air cleaner. Other causes are excessive blowby or a clogged PCV. With the engine at idle, remove the oil fill cap. Unless you see a ton of vapor comming out, forget it. You'll have enough real problems with an Explorer.

Someone topping off oil with the engine running could also cause this.
