Hey all, nOOb here with a question.

I got a 96 Explorer XLT with a 5.0 V8 in it. The Oil Pressure gauge fluctuates sometimes from about 1/3 to just past halfway. I cannot find any pattern to it doing this. But sometimes it will move quickly up and down. Sometimes it stays high for a day or two and sometimes it stay low for weeks. This has been a problem for over a year.

You think it's a electrical problem or maybe it really is the pressure?

Thanks in advance.

Have you ever heard the lifters rattling or any noise from the engine?

If not, start on the electrical side. Put a new sending unit in.

If it still varies, then it may very well be pressure. Hope for electrical cause its tough getting the oil pan off a V8

Connection check

My 95 4.0 had the same problem don't know if it is the same but find your sending unit and try plugging it it more mine was loose.

Oil Pressure

Hey .. I had a 92 which had oil pressure fluctuation ... I finally tracked it down to my oil filter.I changed that twice with the same oil pressure fluctuation, until finally replacing it with a Motorcraft FL-1, then all was well again.

Thanks for the reply's guys!

Scott
