Power Steering Problem

i recently went off roading...and im kinda new at this but the cap from the power steering pump in my 95 xlt blew off...so i replaced it..but the power steering still doesn't seem to work...any quick fix ideas? Im goin to get my car checked out on monday to see if its the pump or if i gotta drop 2d's to replace the whole thing.

How exactly did it blew off? It must have not been secured correctly. Can you explain?
