Did something change or have I changed a setting unknowingly? Usually when I would click on add attachments, which is not there, a screen would pop up showing the stuff in my PC, I would click on desktop the picture that I want to upload, then it would load and then have an option to expand or enlarge. Now the only possible way that I see to upload a picture is in the top bar. I click on image
then a little blue bar says "image url" then you click on insert.
This is different than it was and I can not make it work. Thanks for any help.

This does seem like a change in recent month(s), no?

I see the same post image upload feature as always but once the image gets posted, it has been downsampled to an illegible smaller size than they used to be. In pixels it was a somewhat large image but in file size, only 106KB.

I followed the link but it doesn't state anything about the limit like what that number is, or how to know what # the account has posted towards that limit, or is this a different issue?

Registered members can only post attachments in a few specific forums mainly tech forums.

This subforum was blocked from registered user attachments until I just opened it for testing.

I uploaded the image above from my phone with no sizing issue. I'm on my test account which is using standard registered member permissions.

Here's a sizing issue, example. This image below, as uploaded, is 1620x1986 pixels and 107KB but when posted to a tech topic recently, was downsized by the website to 489x600. The same image was posted here: 2001 Cruise control wiring diagram
As a sanity check I also loaded that page in a different browser, but still downsized.

I've uploaded diagrams like this previously and they only downsized dynamically based on the width of the browser window and could be clicked to view full size (or just maximize the browser window width).

I would make these images smaller before uploading but when it's something like a diagram, it gets difficult to read because the text is so small, so instead I do what I can to minimize the file size.

What is the new maximum resolution that images can be before being permanently downsampled to a smaller resolution?

Is there a page that has this and other image posting info? I looked around, saw the Forum Rules page but no info on this.

Is that going to allow me to see images that everyone else uploads as full sized rather than downsampled? As far as I can tell the answer is no so it's unrelated to this.

I did some testing and any image larger than 600 vertical pixels is downsampled to 600 vertical, probably the same for 800 horizontal pixels downsampled to 800, whichever dimension is larger.

If that's a deliberate decision for the site then I accept that, but if it's not then I'm pointing out a recent/new bug.

Can you see the image in This Post in full 1620x1986 pixels resolution with legible black text (as it was uploaded), or is it smaller and illegible gray text? Can you click and enlarge it?

Something about how these images are handled has changed within the last 2 months.
