      hi,

the radiator's cap of my explorer is damaged, it needs to be changed, but when i go to ford dealer, the code of the cap is not the same, before it was 13 lbs (RS-77 i'm not sure), now is 16 lbs (RS-90). Seller told me this is a change made by ford.
So, before to do any change of cap (and coolant), i would like to know your opinion guys about this situation.

      Ah, my X is a 91 4x4 EB.

      Thanks

I would use whatever your Explorer had before. If it was a 13lb cap, then use that. You can get them at any parts store.

      use the 16lbs cap.

The 16lbs cap will allow the water to get hotter before it will boil over. From Ford you get 16lbs caps.. from most chain stores they try to sell you a 13lbs cap. I wasn't paying attention when I bought a radiator cap a few times ago and got a 13lbs cap. I couldn't figure out why it kept boiling over after I parked. I replaced it with a 16lbs cap (when I noticed it) and haven't had the problem since.

Interesting, I run a 8# cap and it has never "boiled over" of course my cooling system is somewhat overkill and she rarely see's 200 degree's.....
