Hi guys, i noticed this noise just when we were about ready to pack for Florida. The noise is not too loud yet, but i know if it's the rear axle will be very costly to repair, and something that i certainly could'nt do by myself.
I'm thinking it could be a rear bearing but bad bearings are noisy even when coasting, right?... this humming stops when i remove my foot from the accelerator. If it's the rear axle, about how much time/mileage i have left before it becomes undrivable or unsafe? The truck has 83000 miles and i bought it new. Any experiences with this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the infamous pinion ring. Known problem on these vehicles. Mine did it at 20K and I got it changed at 60K. Came back at around 100K and I'm now at 210K. Eventually it will probably cause a problem but if I get to 250K by the time it happens then BONUS.

I wouldn't worry about yours right away.
