I herd the same thing, that they are going to recall 10 million + tires. They didn't give specifics on what size tires though. I have Five firestone's in my basement waiting to be recalled so that I can get some $$ for them. From the first recall they were giving $100 per tire or pay for replacement. Which ever was cheaper.
Hope they recall the 255/70 R16's!

i heard on the radio this mornig that firestone was just doing to watch out for it's customers, u know 2 be on the precausious side. but that it was not at all necessary.

Its not Firestone that is doing the recall, its Ford.

I havent heard much about it. Once BlueOvalNews is updated again though I'm sure they'll be a story.

    Refund!

There was an article in USA Today 5/21 that said Ford would recall all Firestones on 2000-2002 Explorers. It seemed to cover all tire sizes. Ford was doing this as a goodwill gesture since the Wilderness AT tires still seem to fail more often on Explorers than Rangers. I have 4 of the 255/75/16's in my basement, so I couldn't be happier. Might call the dealership today and see if they will either reimburse me for the tires I put on last year, or at least give me $100/tire. Since the 255/75/16's are rather uncommon, and thus more expensive, I'm going to push for the former idea, or get more than $100 per tire (since that doesn't include the cost of installation/balancing I had to pay).

I'll be honest here and say I don't mind having the firestones on my explorer. But keep the updates coming because I will be happy as hell to know when I can get new tires... Who wouldn't?:)

Sucks for me. I bought my truck with Kelly-Springfield tires so I guess I won't be getting new tires.

I too just called the local dealer, I have 4000 miles on an 01 XLT 4 door. The dealer pushed me through to "service". The quote "we are as clueless as you are!" They went on to tell me I would get a card in the mail if the tires are really recalled. 235/75-15s. Sure would like to trade up to some Michellin 265/70-15s. Maybe this is the time to look at 16inch wheels and do it right.

in case you haven't seen.. there is a form on their web page to get refunded for tires bought before the recall. takes 6-8 weeks to get the $110 per tire back to you, but if the dealer won't help you maybe that will. hope that helps anyone. glad i kept those things in the basement!

    Just talked to Ford.

All firestones are being replaced on ALL 2000-2002's. You can bring them in to Ford and they will put on whatever they have, you don't get a choice.

    OR

You buy your own tires and they will reimburse a maximum of $130 per tire.

Sounds like a great deal to me. Time for some KO's!!

    Here are the details:

all wilderness at on explorers 1991-2002 according to the one i talked to. also...only the 17" tires will bring you $130. the 15" & 16" bring $110. any radial atx "temp use" spare is not refundable.
thats just what i read and the guy at ford told me.

I was told something different, but didn't ask the yrs involved.

NOTE: If you purchased your tires after May 22, 2001. You must: · Take your original paid receipt (must denote the manufacturer and brand of tires removed) and your old tires to your local Ford or Lincoln Mercury dealer to have a refund processed· The maximum refund for tires purchased after May 22, 2001 is: o 15 and 16 inch tires - $110.00 per tire (includes mounting, balancing, valve stems, and wheel weights) o 17 inch tires - $130.00 per tire (includes mounting, balancing, valve stems, and wheel weights)(Radial ATX "Temporary Use" spare tires are not eligible for refund)

The guy at Ford said that they could be left at the place you purchase the tires, but then again that may be wrong.

I'm glad I have 5 Wilderness, that means I get the spare too...sweet.

Call you nearest dealer tomorrow to get the best details.
