I have a 1998 explorer and the remote just recently stopped locking the doors. It will unlock them and will set the alarm, but won't lock them. You have to do this manually.

try hitting the button a few times. to unlock my trunk i have to hit it a few times whether its on the remote or manually. same thing on my friends 98...

Probably something to do with the receiver inside the truck...although it could be the remote itself pop the thing open and see if the circuit board is ok...other than that it's probably inside the truck....I don't know anything about that so good luck

Try another remote, might be the button, that happened to my '97

Id say the remotes worn out...

IF any of your door buttons work to lock your vehicle, then you have a broken wire... common problem, thousands of posts.... trace the PK/Y wire. Most likely spot is a break in the splice in the left rear passenger side cable raceway.
