I think a good idea would be to have sub forums in the classifieds by year. Having a newer Explorer I dont care to see the countless posts with older parts, and I am sure that goes the other way for those having older explorers.

Check the post dates. Activity in that forum is so slow there is no need to create more work IMO.

It actually isn't a bad idea as the 5th gen owners tend to stay within those forums. I could just add it as an additional 5th gen subforum so it stays consolidated.

I don't see a need to break it down further for the other generations.

I think it would be great if it was by generation, not each year.

There's not enough traffic to separate it. Sure the 5th gen is its own beast but there's parts that mix match between 1st and 4th gen and separation could let someone miss an item they need that was listed under a different generation.

It sure wouldn't hurt. Anything to make it easier to find an item is a good thing. Having said that, I don't know how many 5th gen members are even aware a Classified Section exists. I've had to point it out to several members. Will the upcoming 6th gen be included?

I should clarify that yes my train of though was by gen not literally each and every year. I dont really care to look at parts from a 1st gen for example because it does me no good. There was mention of no traffic, and personally I feel thats A) because you have to be a paid member to post and B) its cluttered. I understand part A likely wont change but part B could increase traffic if its easier for users to find parts that may interest them. If that is fixed you may also find more members willing to comply with part A as its more likely their sale ad would be seen.

Could just have a header link at the top of page, that way it shows no matter what page your on.

That's how a lot of forums do it at least.

I don’t think it’s that big of a deal because of the low volume. I highly doubt people aren’t posting things for sale because it’s “cluttered”. If you didn’t have to be elite, there’d be scores of people joining to post a single thing for sale. Pass.

Pretty sure low volume is a bad thing...if you want success for a forum you need a way to increase volume, increase traffic, and increase membership. Being so narrow minded and writing something off because it currently doesn't have much volume is a way to ensure it never has any volume of substance. This is precisely why it needs a change to try and encourage a more user friendly environment where more new users jump on board and stick around due to the overall value the forum adds.

My thought was for the 5th and 6th gens to both have their own For Sale sections.

Ok, I went and added a 5th gen for sale forum. Blues Fan, I appreciate the idea, but I hate to say just like the existing For Sale forums members will have to be Elite members to list items for sale. This was done for the safety of other members. We used to have bad transactions quite often before members had to have "skin in the game". Even though it's only $20 that was enough to keep the for sale forum honest.

I will add a For Sale forum for the 6th gen once the vehicle is actually available.

I never said that low volume was a good thing. I’m quite certain adding separate year subcategories will not have any effect at all on membership.

Yeah I understand keeping the section closed to posting to only paying members and didnt figure that piece would change. I also think gmanpaints idea was a good one to have the classified section as a main link under the forum tab. Not sure how difficult that kind of change might be.

Trouble with that is this forum uses responsive design. An additional link at the top would show up on a full size screen on a laptop or desktop computer, but would not show up on a mobile device unless the device is held sideways. The majority of members come in on smart phones so it would be hidden to them.
